Malaysian Tax Academy (MTA) is a training institution for the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM). MTA employs diverse learning methods including face-to-face and online learning in conducting our classes. New norms in teaching and learning have expanded our use of Learning Management Platform System (LMS), Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and other virtual platforms.
- Conduct internal training activities in taxation and soft skills for IRBM officers.
- Develop and broaden taxation awareness among the public towards voluntary tax compliance through Tax Education Programme.
The internal training programme conducted at MTA consists of courses for the purposes job confirmation and career advancement as well as courses for exposure and knowledge.
The International and Professional Training
In addition to internal courses and training for employees of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM), the Malaysia Tax Academy (MTA) also conducts international courses in collaboration with international tax organizations, including the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrator (CATA), Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and South Centre (SC, Geneva) through the Centre for International and Professional Training (CIPT).
The international programs and courses are not only intended for IRBM officers, but also for tax officer from countries in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), selected countries in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands region, and a few other Commonwealth countries. Participation is also open to officials from the Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance.
The training focus on various topics, including international taxation, corporate multinational taxation, e-commerce/digital economy, audit on specific industries, tax treaty, tax administration, and transfer pricing.
Other than internal training programs and international courses, MTA also organizes tax education programs for the public, especially professionals, to enhance their understanding and knowledge of specific tax areas such as capital gains tax, tax audit, employer responsibilities, tax appeals, e-commerce, transfer pricing, investment holding companies (IHC), and taxation on foreign source income (FSI).
